Playing with the keyboard
- Tab to reach the board, then arrow keys to move between squares.
- Enter or Space to pick a piece up, and again to put it down.
- Escape to change your mind.
- Every square announces its name and what is on it.
Why there is no evaluation bar
An engine tells you a position is worth plus 0.35. To a child, and to most adults, that means nothing except that a computer is judging them. It also changes how people play: they stop thinking and start watching the number.
This board plays, and that is all it does. Numbers can wait until somebody asks for them.
